"It matters a great deal who is going to win, but not at all who won"

Willie John McBride, Irish Rugby player

Tenth commandment

You shall not covet …anything that belongs to your neighbour Exodus 20:17

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Philippians that he had learned to be content (Philippians 4:11). That is the principle behind this commandment. We are to be content with what we have. We are not to look over the fence at our neighbour’s new golf clubs and wish we had them – the person on the other side who has no golf clubs may be looking enviously at our clubs!

I wish I was a better player!

I wish I played for a bigger club!

I wish I had new boots like John!

I wish my club had a good field like the club in the next town!

I wish we could win the cup!

The answer to coveting is not getting everything we want but learning to be content.

A man was once staying at a very primitive monastery. The monks said to him, “If there is anything you need, please let us know. We will help you to do without it."
