(Official history of Leicester City), Dave Smith and Paul Taylor, Leicester: Polar Publishing, 1989

NB This is not a book review as such – rather, a summary of material on the Christian origins of the club.

The book describes the Leicester Fosse Football Club as emerging from “the rugged philosophies of private education and ‘Muscular Christianity’”, noting that several of the founders were from the Bible Class of Emmanuel Church. Some of their early fixtures were against local church teams.
