"I love the sense of satisfaction that I get when I’ve done a swimming workout or race, and know that I gave my whole being and heart to God in every moment of the swim. It’s the best worship I can offer him."

Penny Heyns

God hears

Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite. ‘Has the LORD spoken only through Moses?’ they asked. ‘Hasn’t he also spoken through us?’ And the LORD heard this. Numbers 12:1-2

Sometimes the simplest thoughts are the most profound. (Regular readers of Stuart’s weekly email will know that they don’t contain many profound thoughts!) Today’s lesson is to tell you that God hears! Of course, we all know that. But do we remember it and do we believe. And do we allow that promise to encourage us when we are struggling?

There are many examples in the Bible of God hearing. Here are the first four that I found: The Lord has heard my cry for mercy; Psalm 6:9 And the Lord heard Hezekiah and healed the people. 2 Chronicles 30:20 The Lord heard you when you spoke to me. Deuteronomy 5:28 The Lord heard Elijah’s cry. 1 Kings 17:22

I love the story of Hezekiah receiving a letter which disturbed him. We read in Isaiah 37:14 that King Hezekiah “went up to the temple of the LORD and spread the letter out before the LORD”. What a stupid thing to do, to show God the letter , when God already knew what was in it. But it wasn’t stupid, it was just Hezekiah physically and symbolically sharing his problem with God.

When you feel pressured or fearful about injury, your performance, your funding or contract or just the stress of living – tell God. And believe that he hears.
