Loving one another

Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters Hebrews 13:1

There are so many challenges in the Bible to express love as part of our Christian faith from Jesus’ “Love your neighbour as yourself” onwards. The wording “Keep on loving” reminds us that it is an ongoing process, not just a case of loving once and that is it done!!

There are so many situations in sport that challenge our ability to love. How do you love the opponent who keeps beating you – or fouling you? How do you love the person who has taken your place in the team? How do you love the coach who does not pick you? How do you love the official who keeps getting the calls wrong?

The secret is in the second hand of the verse perhaps. We are to see them as brothers and sisters. We are to remember that we are all God’s children. We are to remember that God loves us even when we are not very loveable.

Let us go out and play with all out hearts but at the same time remembering to love our team-mates, our opponents and even the officials.
