"It matters a great deal who is going to win, but not at all who won"

Willie John McBride, Irish Rugby player

Manchester City Games 2013

The Manchester City Games is a really interesting event with a four-lane track built on one of the major roads in Manchester city centre. Long jump and pole vault took place in nearby Albert Square.

The track

Albert Square

Given that there are only 14 events and about 50 athletes (generally 4 per event with some doubling up), I was excited to have identified 10 Christians among them.

Friday I spent attending press conference and generally sitting in the lobby. I had arranged a couple of meetings and was looking out the others as they walked through the lobby. By the end of the day I had spoken to 8 of the 10. Some just a greeting, some a longer chat and some a prayer.

I spoke one American sprinter and said "I did not know you were coming. You are not on the list". She replied, "I only found out yesterday!" I had a chat and a prayer and saw her later with a bag. She said "Just been shopping - bought a woolly hat and gloves or I will freeze".
