In the 1912 Olympic Stadium

“Knowing Christ is the best thing that has ever happened to me, although winning the US Open was a pretty good second.”

Alison Nicholas

Stockholm 2016

Getting to Stockholm for the Bauhaus Diamond League was a challenge when an SAS pilots’ strike cancelled my flight less than 24 hours before departure but it was worth it. The 1912 Olympic Stadium is one of the more quaint venues for athletics. You forgive some of the practical challenges when you recall its history. Rain made conditions difficult but there were some unforgettable moments. On the eve of the event we were able to hold an athletes' Bible Study.

Can you spot me in the press conference

The most exciting event of the evening was the men’s 5,000 which saw Ethiopian runners take the first six places with Ibrahim Jeilan winning in a Personal Best time of 13:03.22 from Yomif Kejelcha. What made the race so special was that the runners were cheered every lap by a several hundred flag-waving Ethiopians. I had no idea that there were so many Ethiopians living in Sweden but they were out in force and having a great time.
